Verification of Identity
Did you know that when buying or selling property it is a necessary part of the process that your conveyancer verifies your identity, either personally, or via an approved Identity Verifier?
The Queensland Titles Office has set a Verification of Identity (‘VOI’) Standard of what is acceptable. Generally, the most common identity documents required are either:
For Australian Citizens or Residents –
- Australian Passport or foreign passport or Australian Evidence of Immigration Status ImmiCard or Australian Migration Status ImmiCard; plus
- Australian driver’s licence or Photo Card; plus
- Change of name or marriage certificate if necessary
OR
- Australian Passport or foreign passport or Australian Evidence of Immigration Status ImmiCard or Australian Migration Status ImmiCard; plus
- Full birth certificate or citizenship certificate or descent certificate plus Medicare or Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs card; plus
- Change of name or marriage certificate if necessary
For Persons who are not Australian Citizens or Residents –
- Foreign passport; plus
- Another form of government issued photographic identity Document; plus

OR

The VOI process is a preventative measure against any fraudulent transactions, particularly with the evolution of an electronic titling system and e-conveyancing.
If you’re thinking of buying or selling, now is the time to get your ID in order, to ensure a smooth transaction.
